Michael L. Corbat (born May 2, 1960) is an American banker. He is the current chief executive of Citigroup, a position he has held since October 2012. He took over from Vikram Pandit who resigned on October 16, 2012.[1]
Corbat was born in Bristol, Connecticut and received bachelors from Harvard in 1983. He was an all conference lineman for the Harvard Crimson football team.[2]
He worked at Citi or its predecessor companies his entire life after graduation starting with Salomon Brothers. At various times he served as Managing Director and Head of the Citi's Global Corporate Bank and Global Commercial Bank; CEO of Citi's Global Wealth Management unit (consisting of Smith Barney and the Citi Private Bank); CEO of Citi Holdings (which was a collection of non-core businesses which Citi sold most of following the Financial crisis of 2007–2008 and Troubled Asset Relief Program loans the bank received from the federal government); and was CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) where he oversaw all Citi operations in that region immediately before his appointment to become CEO of the bank.[3]
