Ebac Group Ltd is a privately owned group of UK companies mainly focused on the design and manufacture of dehumidifiers, water coolers and heat pumps. The company was founded by John Elliott MBE in 1972 and has become a leading UK brand.

Company History

The company was formed in 1972 in Bishop Auckland, County Durham when John Elliott took an order to build industrial dehumidifiers suited to the UK climate. That order led to Ebac's foundation, with John as its only member of staff. The company soon grew and seven years later it reached its first £1M turn-over.[1] One year later, in 1980, Ebac developed the UK's first mass-produced domestic dehumidifier, which effectively created the British market for this product type, and the company blossomed. Production facilities have expanded over the years but have always remained in north east of England.

Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifiers were the company's first mass-produced product and their introduction effectively created the UK market for domestic dehumidifiers in the early 1980s.

Water Coolers

Ebac entered the water cooler market in 1993 when it created the EasyCooler. One year later, Ebac had patented a revolutionary new WaterTrail™ system to improve and simplify water cooler sanitisation. In order to sanitise a water cooler, the watertrail is simply replaced completely which ensures a continually high standard of hygiene. By 2008, over ten million watertrails had been produced.[2]

Heat Pumps

In 2011, Ebac began to develop a range of Air source heat pumps. The Centurion Range has been designed specifically for the UK Climate.

Ladies Day Spa

In 2005, Ebac moved into the leisure industry by opening its first city centre luxury day spa for ladies. The spa is situated in Brewery Wharf, Leeds and its aim is to combine luxury, pampering, beauty and indulgence in a convenient city centre location. Waterfall Spa has also now developed its own range of spa retail products. The spa can accommodate up to 30 guests per day and the facilities include six treatment rooms, relaxation boudoir, hydrotherapy pool, tropicarium, aromatherapy steam room, rasul mud chamber, manicure and pedicure area and café. In 2008, a local newspaper (The Yorkshire Post) reported that a number of celebrities often frequented the spa.[3]

John Elliott

In 2004, John Elliott (Founder and Chairman of Ebac), became the Chairman of the 'North East Says No' campaign which was set up to stop Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott's plans for a regional assembly.[4] The campaign was a huge success with 75% of voters saying No. John has since made a number of TV appearances including Channel 4's Secret Millionaire [Series 1:Episode 2] and the very first episode of the BBC comedy documentary 'Bring Your Husband To Heel'.

Washing machines

Recently, Ebac has received public funding to help it expand into washing machines, creating 200 jobs. [5]
