Sorry, I read the diffs too fast. However, I still disagree with the need to use the phrase "then known as..." This is not strictly accurate. Only in the case of Beiping/Beijing has the name actually changed, while in the other case the change has merely in the prevalent form of Chinese romanization used in the English language. The phrasing implies that the name (both in Chinese and English) has changed as well. The correct phrasing would be "then romanized as..." but this is too much detail for a place name mentioned in passing. Even the parentheticals providing the older spellings are not quite necessary. --Jiang (talk) 03:43, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
