Christopher Lee is a London based Australian Sports Architect and Senior Principal at Populous.

Early life

Born on the east coast of Australia, Lee was schooled at Marist Brothers College at Ashgrove before attending The University of Queensland, graduating with degrees in Design and an Honors degree in Architecture.

Career

Christopher began his architectural career working for the renowned British modernists Philip Powell and Hidalgo Moya at their London practice Powell and Moya. After returning to his native Australia, Lee joined Rod Sheard's practice LOBB Partnership (later to become Populous) to work on the Olympic Stadium for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. In 1999 he moved to London to continue his work with LOBB Partnership on the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Lee went on to be project director and lead architect of the Emirates Stadium for Arsenal Football Club and the Aviva Stadium replacing the legendary Lansdowne Road Stadium in Dublin. In 2009 he was made a Senior Principal.

Christopher moved to New York to establish Populous' International Design Studio. From the IDS, Lee lead the design of the AIA award winning 50,000 seat Estadio de Fútbol Monterrey for Mexican football Club CF Monterrey, the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston Texas for the American MLS team the Houston Dynamo and the 40,000 seat Estádio das Dunas for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Lee's studio also designed projects for the Delhi Convention and Exhibition Centre in India, The Nanjing Convention and Exhibition Centre in China, The Liverpool Events Centre in the UK and Doha Education City Education Campus in Qatar.

In 2011, he returned to London where he led the design of the Liverpool Exhibition Centre and is working for a number of high profile client in the UK and Middle East.
