Ray Sharma is the founder and CEO of XMG Studio, a mobile games studio located in Toronto, Canada.[1][2] Ray is a co-founder of Extreme Venture Partners and sits on the boards for Wellpoint Health Services Corporation[3] and the Ontario Judicial Council,[4] the body that investigates complaints made by the public against provincially-appointed judges and masters in Ontario.
Sharma is a frequent speaker at mobile industry events in both Canada and the United States such as: CTIA – The Wireless Association,[5] the Mobile Games Forum[6] and Interactive Ontario's iP3 Forum.[7] Ray was the keynote speaker for the Scotia Capital Application Developer's Conference in 2012[8] and also moderated Don Carmody's Game ON Finance Fire Side Chat.[9]
Sharma believes that Toronto is ideally situated to be a global digital media hub as a result of the convergence of three factors. "Number one, you've got a new generation of startup thats very low cost. Number two, you've got availability of universities that are world class... and the third thing is that there are government funding programs that are unique to Canada, government funding programs that allow companies to execute very rapidly into this space..."[10]
Sharma is a frequent guest author for Pocket Gamer.[11]
Early career
Sharma's career started out in the investment banking industry where he was an analyst focused mainly on wireless-related technology companies.[7][12] Sharma worked at Canadian and global investment banking firms, including Credit Suisse First Boston, BMO Nesbitt Burns and GMP Securities.[13]
