Due to the positive results obtained from the pilot plant in Glewice, Clariter initiated the construction of its first industrial scale plant (ISP) which will serve as the primary R&D facility for the future years. Clariter intends to begin the construction in 2013. Data obtained from the ISP will be served Clariter for the construction of the Full Scale Plant, an commercial plant capable of processing 50,000 Tons of plastic a year.

Clariter Group S.A. is a global Clean-Tech group with proprietary technology and an unique process for upcycling plastic waste. Clariter converts plastic waste into high grade chemical fluids of outstanding purity. Clariter’s recycling solution for municipal plastic waste serves for the growing global need for disposal of non-perishable Polyolefin and helps resolve one of the most serious environmental problems facing the world today.

Clariter currently operates in Europe, North America and the Middle East with future plans for expansion into Asia and Africa.

History

Clariter was founded in 2003, after years of extensive R&D activity which involved close cooperation with the "Centre of Polymer and Carbon Materials"[1], a member of the Polish Academy of Science. In 2005, following successful laboratory tests, a Pilot Plant was commissioned by Clariter’s subsidiary BL Laboratories Limited (currently Clariter Poland Limited) in the Polish town of Glewice. The Pilot plant serves as the primary R&D facility for Clariter's tests and laboratory experiments.

Process

Clariter’s recycling process uses plastic waste as base raw material. Clariter's raw material is comprised of polyolefin in its' various forms such as PP,HDPE and LDPE, as well as PS. Clariter's raw material can include a mixture of the above mentioned variations of plastics, in various physical shape and without taking into consideration any colour differences.

Chemically Explained

Clariter’s recycling solution operates in three major stages: Continuous thermal cracking stage, where plastic waste (mainly Polyolefins) is converted into wide range of Hydrocarbons. It is followed by Multi-Stage Refining which effects in practically removing all impurities (mainly heteroatoms like sulphur, nitrogen and chloride), transforming aromatic and olefin compounds leading to respectively Naphthenic and paraffinic hydrocarbons improving properties. Separation of refined fractions and finishing steps converting the mixture into product families of solvents, oils and waxes.

Products and Expertise

Clariter expertise is producing a wide range of high purity and quality hydrocarbon products. The product are divided into families of solvents, oils and waxes. Clariter's products do not include fuel or petrol.

Solventra®

This group of Clariter products represents a wide cut of aliphatic hydrocarbon fluid fraction after deep hydrorefining characterized by low aromatic (dearomatized) content, low level of heteroatom impurities such as sulphur, nitrogen, chloride, negligible amount of reactive compounds such olefins and low odor. Potential applications for Clariter's solvents group of products are wide and many such as solvent for paints, resins and coatings, special degreasing fluids, car cosmetics products, printing & dying fluids, performance fluids in agriculture (herbicide and pesticide carrier), household cleaning fluids, and other usages.

Oilter®

This group of Clariter products represents the light paraffinic mineral oil / light mineral white oil fractions (paraffinum liquidum) deeply hydrorefined. It is characterized similarly to the Solvents with regards to the low aromatic and impurities. These products have very low pour point, light viscosity and they are colorless and water white.Typically, white oil products are applied in food processing (bakeries, granaries) and packaging, textile industry (impregnates), paper industry (additive carrier), shoe polish & waxes, specialty lubricants formulation as light white oils, agriculture for spray oil formulation and crops protection fluids and more.

Wax product produced from Clariter's pilot plant

Clariwax®

Similarly to Clariter's other products, its Waxes are also characterized by the low aromatic and impurities level. Its waxes are represented by high melting point which position product in high melt waxes group. High penetration giving the Waxes good elastic properties and adhesive properties that is characteristic for microcrystalline waxes.

Clariter's Facilities

Pilot Plant

Clariter's Pilot Plant in Glewice

In 2006 pilot plant for thermocatalytic cracking of polyolefin waste and hydrofinishing and distillation of obtained product was started up on "Non-Ferrous Metals Institute"[2] territory. The project concept has been based on the results of laboratory tests on degradation of plastics provided in previous years. With technology development, the installation form was deeply changed both from the technological-apparatus side and the number of employed workers (in peak point 9 people was working in three-shift system). Today, Clariter's pilot plant is provides laboratory services to academic institutions under "C-Labs".[3]

Industrial Scale Plant

Due to the positive results obtained from the pilot plant in Glewice, Clariter initiated the construction of its first industrial scale plant (ISP) which will serve as the primary R&D facility for the future years. Clariter intends to begin the construction in 2013. Data obtained from the ISP will be served Clariter for the construction of the Full Scale Plant, a commercial plant capable of processing 50,000 Tons of plastic a year.

Locations

Clariter is working in several locations across the world, ranging from North America to Asia. The unique technology that Clariter uses has the ability to influence the amount of crude oil used and its various extracted products. Therefore, Clariter initiated several projects in key locations such as Poland, Israel, South Africa and North America.
