I noticed that this article was not referenced, and I was taught a similar but subtly different set of principles:

  • Gentle handling of tissues
  • Meticulous homeostasis
  • Preservation of blood supply
  • Strict asepsis
  • Minimum tension on tissues
  • Accurate tissue apposition
  • Obliteration of dead space

Is there a good general reference for Halstead's principles which could be used and clear this up?- Zephyris Talk 11:28, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know of one, but I have a copy of William Stewart HALSTED's biography around somewhere. I suspect that the surgical principles related here are actually his precepts. I suggest that the name of the article be changed, and a link added to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Stewart_Halsted
