==My view of the problems with Wikipedia==

(''in progress, Dec 2008'')

Personally I am uninterested in UFOs, parapsychology, and various fringe views in physics about plasma cosmology or cold fusion.

The internet is full of paranoid crackpot conspiracies about the Bilderberg group, the secret genocidal plans to reduce the world population by 90 percent by the Secret World Government (which is controlled by the Freemasons), that HIV was developed by the Pentagon to kill the African population, that the Pentagon has ultra secret pacts with Aliens to allow mass abductions, that CIA and the Pentagon have mass implanted electronic devices in humans to exert mind control, blah blah blah.

As these Fringe views are unsupported by facts they can be kept out of Wikipedia with the existing Policies and Guidelines. That is why we have [[WP:Fringe]] and other policies.

The problem is that the alleged pro-science editors abuse these guidelines and push the balance too far in the other direction.

The idea that Wikipedia should be a “mainstream” dictionary and only represent the generally accepted establishment POV will kill Wikipedia as a dynamic evolving collaborative repository of all human knowledge for the Internet age. If a WP:Mainstream[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_is_a_mainstream_encyclopedia] was ever enacted it would make Wikipedia an incredible boring project. It also directly contradicts Jimbo Wales’s vision for Wikipedia:

That's our commitment.”}}[http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Donate/Letter/en?utm_source=2008_jimmy_letter_r&utm_medium=sitenotice&utm_campaign=fundraiser2008#appeal] appeal by Jimbo Wales
