Rather than [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Bradley_Manning&diff=prev&oldid=571340462 saying] things like "I will continue to refer to him as a male as long as he has a dick and a Y chromosome", can you in the future (or even edit that comment now) phrase your opinion in a way that your opponents won't cherry-pick as an insult and ignore the opposition itself? It just gives them ammo for the "you're transphobic!" accusations. If that is actually your opinion, that's fine (though effective opposition to this needs to be grounded in Wikipedia policy as well), but perhaps consider phrasing it like "As long as he is physiological male, I will refer to him as ''he''" or somesuch. I see what you're saying but it does not seem necessary. My stern responses are, at least in my opinion, not as crass as those who demand I call Bradley a "she." I wrote that in such a way so that it would come off as something to the effect of "not only will I continue to refer to him by male pronouns, but how dare you ask me to do otherwise" or something like that. Edit conflict
Hi IFreedom1212. Please be careful that when you add comments to a talk page that you do not remove others' comments. With this edit you removed Bob K31416's recent addition to the page. I've restored it. Thanks. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:55, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- My mistake. That was not intentional. Thank you for fixing it. IFreedom1212 (talk) 02:02, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
You did it again with Knowledgekid87's comment in this edit you made. I've fixed that one too. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:22, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- How am I missing these? IFreedom1212 (talk) 02:27, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- When you hit "save page", when this happens there ought to be a warning screen titled "Edit conflict" that appears instead of letting you immediately save the page. If that's not happening, maybe there's something screwy with the MediaWiki software, which I've heard sometimes will happen on a page that is very busy with lots of edits in a short period of time. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:03, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- I see that every now and then but I always try to correct the discrepancies. I'll keep an eye out for it but perhaps MediaWiki isn't catching all of them. IFreedom1212 (talk) 03:12, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Rhetoric softening
Rather than saying things like "I will continue to refer to him as a male as long as he has a dick and a Y chromosome", can you in the future (or even edit that comment now) phrase your opinion in a way that your opponents won't cherry-pick as an insult and ignore the opposition itself? It just gives them ammo for the "you're transphobic!" accusations. If that is actually your opinion, that's fine (though effective opposition to this needs to be grounded in Wikipedia policy as well), but perhaps consider phrasing it like "As long as he is physiological male, I will refer to him as he" or somesuch.
