Template:UKIceHockey team The Edinburgh Capitals are a Scottish Ice Hockey club based in the capital Edinburgh. The team play at the Murrayfield Ice Rink, close to Murrayfield Rugby stadium.

The Capitals are a successor club to the famous Murrayfield Racers team.

The team played in the British National League for most of their existence but in 2005-06 season they joined the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Their headline sponsor is Breken Inns.

It was a difficult start for the Capitals in 05-06, with the roster unrecognisable from the team that finished bottom of the British National League the season before. The Capitals had collected only a small handful of wins as the half way point of the season approached.

However, changes made to the side towards the end of 2005, including the additions of Michael Kiesman, Mike Sandbeck and Peter Konder, helped turn the fortunes of the club around. The Capitals form improved dramatically in the second part of the season. The final game saw the Capitals and the Basingstoke Bison level on points, regulation wins and overall wins. In the end the Capitals 'won' the Wooden Spoon after an overtime defeat to the Belfast Giants coupled with the Bison's 3-0 away win over the Cardiff Devils.

At the end of their first Elite League season, Neil Stevenson-Moore received the Player of the Season Award, Matt Rich received Best British Player while Neil McCann received the Coach's Player of the Year Award.

The Capitals will have a new coach for their second Elite League season after it was announced that Tony Hand was leaving the club for a new challenge.
