== The Action Quantum in Evolutionary Time ==

Discovery of the action quantum is somewhat like the discovery of the atomic elements, proton, electron and so on. The action quantum was a surprise because it is a magnitude of action, yet action can consist of various permutations on mass, energy, time, length * length, and other variables. It is, of course, very small - the amount of action in one light wave wiggle.

The dimensions are [h] = [Mass]*[Area]*[Frequency] where the square brackets indicate dimensions, and each variable can appear in different forms. For example, Mass can also be in the form of Energy, so energy can appear in the dimension-set for action, as in [h] = [Energy]*[Area]*[Frequency]. Scaling relations such as E = m*c^2, apply. [Area] can appear as [Length]*[Length} and so on.

Various measures can appear in whatever units are most desired. For instance, energy can be in electron-volts, ergs, calories, Joules, British Thermal Units, ricks of firewood, tons of coal, or TNT equivalent. The action can be released place over a long period of time, such as while burning coal for heat, or slowly consuming oil or natural gas or electrical energy possibly from a nuclear reactor. Or it may be deliberately released in a nearly instantaneous event such as a nuclear explosion.

All along the way, the smallest observable quantity of action is h, the quantum, about 6*10^-34 Joule-second, or a fraction such as 1/(2*pi), of that. It may be the smallest quantity of action in fact throughout the universe-that's not known for sure yet. A Mars, Jupiter or Saturn instrument could measure the quantum and determine that for quite some time to come.

In the evolution of living organisms, an organism can find that when it invents a motion or an appendage of some kind which gives it an advantage, it will be in one of the dimensions of action permitted it.

Length by itself is a permitted dimensions of the action and that's why there are so many tentacles, feelers, legs and arms, whiskers, teeth, claws, hair and noses in nature. As is evident in conifers, the dimension of length permits many plants to grow with tall straight trunks, and pine needles. Human beings are understanding the various dimensions into which our actions can extend, such as length, speed, frequency, mass and so on. These permit great avenues for versatile constructions and inventions.

Many important products are in fundamental dimensions of action. Length for instance is the dimension in which wire, rope, yarn, cord, highways, pipe, rails, girders, thread, boards, radio towers, and many other manufactured and constructed works appear. Area is another: millions of square feet of fabric, plywood, plasterboard, sheet steel and aluminum, window glass, tarmac, concrete, paper, floor tile, painted surfaces, etc. are created each year. Millions of hectares of agricultural land are the sources of food. Jurisdictions are mapped out in areas. Mass is yet another: tons of coal, iron ore, bauxite and other ores are refined into purified metals and other substances, and these are often used in the manufacture of single-dimensioned products such as wire rope, rails and pipe.

It is slowly being discovered that costs are somewhat different in each of these dimensions.

Civilization's vast industry is proceeding in forms of the action that are more fundamental than we as living organisms usually understand. The action and its quantum and dimensional versatility will be a major stage in the evolution of Earth during all the future that can be imagined. That may shape whether interstellar flight will ever be possible. Conversely, new paths for Earth's future may emerge.

Hi SyntheticET! I just answered your question on Talk:Ecliptic_pole. Mattj2 (talk) 00:16, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Matt. You're correct of course. SyntheticET (talk) 01:29, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Understanding the World of New Cosmology

People throughout the world are on edge because of nuclear energy. Even peaceful use of nuclear energy is dangerous. Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, Fukushima and dozens of other radioactivity incidents are ample evidence of that.

It may become less dangerous in time; those who profit from it are depending on that. Yet we have made of the world, a cosmology that demands ever-increasing radiation of energy from planet Earth.

Perhaps planet Earth is on its way to becoming a dwarf star, and we are the suckers throwing the stuff into the river of no return. After all, space has infinite admittance, completely isotropic admittance, to radiation from Earth.

Big Bang theories of the origin of the Universe arose from the many nuclear explosions that began at Alamogordo in New Mexico.

Over two thousand years ago, it was the practice of ancient Roman armies to tell tribes around the Mediterranean, which they conquered and subdued, "From now on, your entire World begins and ends with Rome."

That's where the Big Bang theory comes from. The Big Bang theory is why it is so difficult to find the tranquil mind that can contemplate Hubble Distance red-shift carefully and well. The Big Bang theory is imposed by people who treasure their horribly destructive weapons beyond all cost. Possibly, at the cost of our only habitable planet. The Action Quantum in Evolutionary Time
