Open World games
Hi ECW28,

I would definitely describe the Borderlands series as Open World. I think Darksiders would qualify as well. Those changes seem like good additions. Thanks for your edits! Caidh (talk) 13:19, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
: I looked at the list of games you listed, and unfortunately I don't know most of them. Of those I know, Dishonored, and the Mass Effect series are definitely not open world. The rest of the games I don't know well enough to state. One thing to keep in mind about open world games, is that there shouldn't be any artificial barriers preventing you from going from one area to another. Its fine if the barrier is that the enemies are too strong (such as in a series like Might and Magic, where advancing in levels is required to be able to survive enemies. Its another if you are just unable to enter another area because you haven't learned about it in game yet. The best examples of open world are games like Skyrim or World of Warcraft. Both games you are able to go to virtually any outdoor location (as long as you've paid for all the content). The Open World article has it much more eloquently than I can put it.Caidh (talk) 00:45, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
# Add four tildes ( &#126;&#126;&#126;&#126; ) at the end of your comment; or
# With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Open world
Can you please explain your open world edits and reverts? The games you are categorising are not open world games. <FONT COLOR="red">Я</FONT>ehevkor <big><FONT COLOR="black">✉</FONT></big> 17:59, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
:Rehevkor He's said at my talk page that any game with side quests is an open world game, per his reading of Open world. ECW28- it seems like several people are disagreeing with your definition. Consider starting a thread at WT:VG to try to build a common consensus on what games should be in that cateogory, besides ones that are described as such in reliable sources? --<span style="color:green">Pres</span><span style="color:blue">N</span> 18:16, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
Please stop adding "open world" to Deus Ex: Human Revolution. You have been reverted multiple times now. Go to the talk page. -- ferret (talk) 18:25, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

: Please note that Giant Bomb, which you've started adding as a reference, is a user-contributed wiki and per WP:SPS doesn't qualify as a reliable source on Wikipedia. Indrek (talk) 18:44, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

ECW28 - in response to your question on my talk page, there are several types of 'artificial' restrictions that exist in non-open world games. One type of this is being blocked from travelling to other areas of a game due to story/plot restrictions. For example, in Skyrim, Fallout, or Might and Magic, you are able to go from any exterior point in the game to any other exterior point from the start. You may not be strong enough to survive the enemies or environment there, but there is no barrier. An example of a closed world would be a game like Final Fantasy 13. This game doesn't let you even return to areas you have previously visited - you can only move forward. I would say that you should definitely read over the Open world article as that is much better explained and sourced than my own comments.Caidh (talk) 13:25, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
: Also, after reading other comments here, I do agree that a discussion at a larger venue such as WP:VG is advisable if you haven't done so already.Caidh (talk) 13:30, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
:: Hello ECW28 - I saw your message on my talk page. Unfortunately, most of the games listed aren't ones I know well. Though Final Fantasy XIII as I've mentioned is an example of what is NOT open world, I don't know Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns at all unfortunately. In general though, the Final Fantasy games (except for 11 & 14) aren't really good examples of open world. They may have some facets of it, and when you get an airship in some of the older ones they then have a feel of being open world, but you're still heavily restricted from traveling until you acquire that form of transportation (and even then are restricted in where you can land). In general, a game should be far more like Skyrim or World of Warcraft and provide few restrictions on traveling. Sorry I don't know more about the other games you asked about though.Caidh (talk) 21:34, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
:::ECW28 - please stop asking if games are open world. I'm not sure why you aren't getting this, but: for Wikipedia to state that a game is open world, you need to find a reliable source that says "this game is an open world game". Only if you find such a source could you call a game open world. Almost every single game you've been mentioning over the last couple of weeks is not open world. At all. You seem to be confusing the idea of games that don't have "levels" with open world games, and also not actually reading anything that anyone tells you in response to your questions. If you are unable to understand what the definition of an open world game is, and are also unable to look for reliable sources to support the idea that a given game is an open world game, then perhaps you need to find something else to focus on in regards to Wikipedia. --<span style="color:green">Pres</span><span style="color:blue">N</span> 22:40, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
::::Thats the problem: Im looking for articles that say they are, and i find some. But some say otherwise. And i dont know which to believe. Its because im trying to play open world games, but i dont know if some are or arentECW28 (talk) 23:16, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
:::::Articles talk pages are for writing/improving the respective articles; they are not for your own personal game playing goals. If all you're trying to do is find out which games are open world so you can play them, then you really ought to be posing these questions to places like Gamefaqs or Google.
