==Planning to change title of page== |
|||
Hi everyone, |
|||
As you can see, I've made a lot of additions to this page recently. I'm planning to add some more information in the Women's rights, Health, Education, and Poverty sections within the next few days. Since the information I've added has focused on human rights abuses during the 1996-2006 conflict and ongoing issues afterwards, I think it would be good to change the title to reflect this focus. How about "Human rights in Nepal from 1996 to present"? Since the page has no information about human rights abuses before 1996, I think this title would be more appropriate. |
|||
What do you think? Let me know if you object or want to suggest a different title! I would love some feedback/advice on this. And thanks for all your help so far! |

Best, |

Planned additions and revisions
Hi everyone! My name is Saira, and I am a student at Rice University. I am planning to edit this page as part of a school project. My goal is to bring the article up to at least B-class status and to increase traffic to the page. I’ve done research on the human rights situation in Nepal, and I have several additions and revisions in mind. I wanted to post a description of them here before I get started so that you all know where I’m headed. I’d also love any suggestions for topics to include or good sources to use.
My plan:
First, I’m planning to add some more information on the history of the conflict between the Nepalese army and the Maoist group fro, 1996-2006. I’d like to make a new “History” section for this information, because the history of this conflict seems to have had such a great impact on current human rights in Nepal (from the research I’ve done). Also, all the history that currently exists in the article is uncited, presumably because it is in the introduction. I have found citations for most of it, and I will add this information to the new “History” section to ground the introduction.
I’d also like to add new sections on four topics that I feel are important for an understanding of the human rights situation in Nepal: “Poverty”, “Education”, “Health,” and “Torture”. I will add information for each of these new sections. If you look around the Nepal Wikipedia pages, you’ll see there are pages entitled “Education in Nepal”, “Health in Nepal”, etc., but these pages do not seem to address the human rights implications of their topics, so I’m hoping to do that here. I’m planning to add some more cited information to the “Gender equality” section as well, where much of the content seems dubiously cited. I’d like to add a subsection entitled “Mental health” to the new “Health” section too, because it seems to be an issue mentioned often in the studies conducted on human rights in the country.
Finally, I’d like to go over the existing content and address the “personal reflection or opinion essay” flag that has been placed on the page. I think including the new sections above and the historical information will also help this problem; as it is now with just the “Gender equality” section, the article gives the impression that this is the only human rights issue taking place.
In addition to these changes, I’m also planning to link this article to other Nepal-related articles to try to increase visibility.
Thanks! Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. Particularly, I’d be interested to know if anyone thinks another major human rights issue in Nepal is especially important to include for balance or significance based reasons. (I know there are many important issues, but because of time constraints I need to prioritize the most relevant ones.)

Interesting additions!
Good job, Saw329! I really appreciate your article and I learned a lot! Adding more sources, especially books or interviews with individuals in this area, would provide an additional point of view. Adding more citations and links throughout the article could increase traffic onto your page. Are there any more recent human rights violations in Nepal? How is the government responding to the poverty and human rights violations? How did/is the international community responding to these violations? I’m excited to read more, especially after you expand the gender equality section!
