Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts is a private institution for higher education offering allied health and nursing programs. Degrees, diploma and certification programs are offered at its campuses in San Mateo, Concord, Modesto and Fresno, CA and through distance education. Gurnick Academy is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau for Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Programs

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts offers healthcare programs and continuing education courses that provides didactic and laboratory training as well as a clinical component that correlates with the theoretical knowledge.

Gurnick Academy - Medical Assistant Lab

Gurnick Academy opened its first campus in February of 2004 and currently has four campuses in California:

Labs and equipment

Gurnick Academy - Classroom
  • The imaging lab is equipped with ultrasound scanners capable of performing general and specialized procedures including 3D and colorflow imaging.
  • The patient-care lab is equipped with hospital beds, anatomical models, hi-fidelity interactive simulation mannequins and other patient-care equipment.
  • The medical assistant lab is equipped with tables and equipment for diagnostic assistance including scales, EKG machines, urine and blood testing.
  • The physical therapy laboratory is equipped with hi-lo treatment tables, modalities, and exercise equipment.
  • The phlebotomy lab is equipped with anatomical charts and models, specimen collection equipment and supplies.
  • The energized radiologic technology lab is equipped with one stationary radiography unit, a digital image receptor system, and a portable x-ray machine.
  • Standard equipment includes a library of text/case studies and reference books, video monitors, computers, journals, and audio and video aides.

Community Service

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts students, faculty and staff take part in charity events including fundraising and volunteering to help people in need. Gurnick partner organizations include National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Red Cross and Army Recruiting Station.

Participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's

Some of the past Gurnick Academy community service activities include:

  • blood donating[12]
  • preparing gift bags for the Children’s Crisis Center of Stanislaus County[13]
  • collecting toys and other gifts for over 70 children in San Mateo[14]
  • feeding the families at First Step of San Mateo, homeless shelter for families[15]
  • volunteering at the MS (multiple sclerosis) Walk in Fresno, California[16]
  • participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's and raising over $1,000[17]
  • donating toys, clothes, and an iPad to 10 families in need through The Salvation Army[18]
  • hosting a Disaster Health and Shelter course for 25 students in partnership with The Red Cross[19]
  • collecting over 2,500 cans of food for those in need the holiday season in December 2013 - January 2014[20]
  • holding free blood pressure checks to over 250 residents during Health Fair at Fairwinds Woodward Park[21]
  • provided blood pressure screenings, presentation on health and wellness to seniours at the Concord Senior Center.[22]
