Wikipedia:De Gruyter/Nav

De Gruyter is a scholarly publisher specializing in academic literature in a variety of subject areas. They have generously offered the use of 1000 accounts to access all of the electronic resources available through De Gruyter Online, which include ebooks and journals in arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, theology/religion, medicine, mathematics, law and general reference. Their offerings include resources in English, German, and several other languages. All initial accounts will be issued for a full year.

Requirements

• You have your preferences enabled to receive email messages on English Wikipedia; (see Special:Preferences)
• You have an account that is a minimum of 1 year old
• You have a minimum of 1000 edits to the encyclopedia
• You are active in content generation, research, and/or verification work
• You do not already have free access to De Gruyter resources through another avenue

If you don't quite meet the experience requirements but think you would still be a strong candidate for access, feel free to apply and you may be considered

Expectations

Approved editors may

• Search, view, retrieve, and display portions of restricted content
• Electronically save portions of restricted content
• Print out single copies of portions of restricted content
• Comply with any terms and conditions which appear on the particular pages of the De Gruyter website they are accessing

Approved editors will not

• Share their account logins or passwords with others, or sell their access to other parties
• Mass scrape or mass download De Gruyter content
• Systematically make printed or electronic copies of multiple extracts of restricted content available for any purpose
• Process data or datamine metadata without permission, in order, for instance, to use metadata for auto-created stub articles
• Display any copyrighted images or pictures which are in De Gruyter works without permission of De Gruyter

Private and confidential information

• You will need to have a confirmed email address to participate. By applying, you understand and agree that your name and email address may be shared with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation, The Wikipedia Library, and De Gruyter. While Wikipedia Library coordinators are volunteers (not employees or contractors of the Wikimedia Foundation or De Gruyter), they have signed confidentiality agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation with regards to the personal information they may handle for the Wikipedia Library.

Citation

• Editors should always provide original citation information, in addition to linking a De Gruyter resource, per WP:V and WP:SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT
• Editors should not provide bare links to non-free De Gruyter pages
• Editors should note "(subscription required)" in the citation (either through the "|subscription = " variable in {{cite}} templates or {{subscription required}}), where appropriate

Here are a few ways you could help The Wikipedia Library effectively leverage this partnership:

• Add {{Wikipedia:De Gruyter/Userbox}} to your user boxes if you have access to this database. This helps us share our project with other experienced users.
• TWL is interested in having guest bloggers. Guest blogging gives the opportunity for both The Wikipedia Library and De Gruyter to profile our partnership, and it gives the guest bloggers a new platform to share their editing experience with others (which is good for the Wikimedia community).

Add yourself at the bottom of the list with a line starting with #{{user8|USERNAME|Project=code}} (eg. {{user8|Example|Project=en}} followed by an explanation of why you believe the access would be beneficial to you. It is a good idea to include in your application text: your depth of experience with Wikipedia and other WM projects, your editing areas benefited by access, and examples of your commitment to content creation.

1. Pajz (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I'm a frequent editor of law-related articles. As examples, I've written the article on the “freedom of panorama,” the three-step test in international copyright treaties, and the right to broadcast. DeGruyter provides access to a number of relevant e-books and journals. Joining Wikipedia in 2005, I'm currently an administrator on dewiki, an OTRS admin, and have made more than 18,000 edits to dewiki.
2. Delirium (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I edit in history and geography, and occasionally in technology. I'm active mainly on en.wp (50k edits) and wikidata (10k edits), and have started about 600 en.wp articles. I used to have institutional access, but I don't currently have an academic position, and therefore access through this program would be a great help. --Delirium (talk) 02:48, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
