"OctaHate"
Song

"OctaHate" is a song written and recorded by Ryn Weaver, taken from her Promises EP.[3] It was released by Interscope Records and Friends Keep Secrets Records on 8 August 2014.[4] The song is also featured on Ryn's debut studio album, The Fool (2015).

Music video

A music video for OctaHate was released 8 October 2014, directed by Goodwin.[5] The original video has since been taken down as Ryn hated it.[6] Instead, a new video has been released on 15 May 2015, this time directed by Griffin Frazen.[7]

Live performances

Ryn made her live TV debut with OctaHate on the Late Show with David Letterman on 15 January 2015.[8]

Critical reception

Chris Deville from Stereogum praised the song saying, "Even at a time when it seems like every upstart on SoundCloud is pushing sparkly pan-genre synthpop, “OctaHate” stood out for its sleek exterior and the effortless manner in which it swung from playful sway to magnificent sweep".[9] The song was also given a positive review by Michelle Geslani of Consequence of Sound saying, " “OctaHate” is as catchy as a pop number can possibly hope to be. Between the twinkling xylophones, airtight melodies, and frothy beats, Weaver already sounds radio-ready, just in time for summer."[10]
