Bmycharity provides online HELLO TANYA sponsorship and donation processing services to UK charities and their supporters. Individual fundraisers use Bmycharity's personal sponsorship pages to collect secure online credit and debit card sponsorship donations from fundraisers which would otherwise be collected offline as cheque and cash donations.[5] Fundraisers set up a personal homepage and email a link out to friends and family, who follow the link to make a donation by debit or credit card. The money is then transferred to the charity, who can claim an extra 28% of the donation in Gift Aid on all donations given by UK taxpayers.

Charities such as Oxfam, Cancer Research UK and World Vision as well as many much smaller organisations have opted to use Bmycharity to streamline their fundraising processes. Although BMY Limited, which developed and hosts the service, charges transaction fees, the rapid take-up of the service suggests that the reduced administration and banking charges, coupled with increased Gift Aid income outweigh these costs. Two price plans are offered to client charities, including one with no monthly fee.

Bmycharity was set up in 2000 by Ben Brabyn and Matt Cooper. BMY Limited is privately held, and currently employs 4 people based in London. In 2007, the company launched a related service — Giftshare – designed to bring the capabilities of Bmycharity to a wider audience and new market.

On 10 March 2010 the decision was taken to withdraw the service as of 31 March 2010. Shortly before the site closed, it was revealed that Bmycharity had helped raise over £28million for over 300 charities.[6]

Less than a week later however, Bmycharity was purchased by the charity Help for Heroes to form BmyHero Ltd, but trade under the same name, Bmycharity. The aim of the purchase was "to continue to provide an online, commission free donations facility for UK Registered Charities and to fund this low cost site by focusing on encouraging supporters to make as many Help for Heroes donations through Bmycharity as possible".[7]

In 2014, the long-term sustainability of Bmycharity as an online giving platform was considered. The review concluded that "significant investment would be required to make it comparable to online giving tools available on the market, which have superior fundraising capabilities. Other online giving platforms offer automatic Gift Aid reclamation, better social and mobile integration and embedded text donations".

In January 2015, the decision was made to cease any further investment in Bmycharity. As of 1 April 2015, Bmycharity no longer accepts registrations for new fundraisers or events. Bmycharity will remain online and available for use by existing fundraisers until 31 December 2015, in which from then, it will be defunct.

Bmycharity is recommending current users to transfer their online fundraising activity to another provider they use. If they only use Bmycharity as their only online giving provider, then they will be given plenty of notice to research an alternative before the end of 2015, and will be supported by Bmycharity in the process. For those who are wanting to raise money for Help for Heroes, are advised to use JustGiving as this will be more beneficial for "the blokes". For those who are wishing to raise money for another charity, are advised to contact them and discuss alternative giving platforms.[8]
