Based on U.S. Firsthand Experience (M107 175mm Gun retubed to 8 inch M110A2 "long tube"), you could use a crew of 5 as: Section Chief (Operated hydralic spade, also as loader operated hydralic ram), Driver, Gunner (Also RTO, Radio Telephone Operator), Assistant Gunner, Number 1.

crewing comment

My notes on the British version of this state that it needs a crew of 13 to work it. 5 can be carried onboard but the rest have to follow along in the Ammo Limber.

phased out?

As far as I know the M107 and M110 have been phased out of service, with the US Army relying on the M109 155MM SP Gun and the M270 MRLS.

  • The US Army phased them out iirc, then they were passed down, maybe to the marines, but most of them ended up with allied nations.

The article lists the last M110 round fired at Ft. Drum in 1991. The cite for this is a youtube video showing British soldiers firing an M110 in Desert Storm? I was in a M110 Battalion (3rd/92nd FA, USAR, Akron, OH) in the early 90s. Considering I joined in August of 1991 I can assure you that M110s were fired after the date listed in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.219.131.157 (talk) 05:07, 27 June 2012 (UTC) I agree- I joined the Minnesota Army Nat'l Guard in 1994, and they still had 110's at Camp Ripley. In any case, if they are still in service today or nominally today, that the last round was fired some 20 years ago is impossible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.113.214.75 (talk) 07:42, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

intro

I think it would be helpful to be more explicit in the introductory paragraph about when the M110 entered service, and in which conflicts it was employed. LordAmeth 00:10, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

USMC service?

I've read that eight-inch howitzers were part of the US Marines' inventory, at least during Desert Storm. Is this true? Or were the 8-in SPHs Army-only?

Need dates

This article needs service dates to place the weapon in a historical context. On the same theme, statements such as "remains in service with the Spanish and Greek Armies" are meaningless without giving the date and source that the situation was last verified.

armament charecteriatics missing

most articles on comparable vehicles include details of the performance of the armament, also types of shells used etc. Some idea of maximum range, amount of explosive delivered, weight of ammunition etc etc is usually found, that would be very helpful when comparing with other systems with articles, thanks if anyone can add such data
