Established in the year 1990 , the institute offers professional media courses for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Harkisan Mehta Institute of Media, Research and Analysis named after [[Harkisan Mehta]]. He was a [[Gujarathi]] novelist, journalist and the founder editor of Chitra Lekha Magazine. At the institutional level, HMMRA is governed by committee of office bearers with nominated by the parent group of SVKM which is having control and responsibility for the maintenance of standards of instruction, education and examinations. For all academic matters, there is the team lead by a Director. Current director is Prof. Soumyadipta Banerjee.
