Margherita Servetto, commonly known as Mara, (born September 9, 1957 in Turin) is an Italian architect, designer.

Biography

She studied at the Polytechnic University of Turin where she received her degree in Architecture under the supervision of Professor Achille Castiglioni. When Castiglioni obtained a teaching position at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Mara moved to Milan where she collaborated with Castiglioni until 1990. With Ico Migliore she worked on research, architectural and design projects. In 1992 she drew some objects for Alessi. In the meantime, Mara developed researches and trials on the use of fiberglass both in architecture and design.

With Ico Migliore and Giovanna Piccinno she began to produce “AA.VV. Autorivari” objects, which started to be distributed in Italy. In 1994 they are invited to present their work at the “Primordi” exhibition at Triennale di Milano. At the same time, they created the installation “Transitional boudaries: cantilevers”, made by three different fiberglass shelters, on display at Galleria Inter Nos, in via Cappuccio, during Salone del Mobile, in 1996.

In 1997 he started, with his husband Ico Migliore, Migliore + Servetto Architects, an architecture firm which creates , together with an international team of architects and designers, projects on various scales: from architecture to interior design; from urban design to temporary exhibitions; from museum to communication projects. These project, diversified as they are, create innovative places which have a major impact on people.

Mara Servetto teaches Display and Museography at the Architecture department the Polytechnic University of Milan. Over the years her students have actively participated in workshops which focused on urban projects. She has lectured and run workshops in Italy and abroad, and she is a Visiting Professor at Joshibi University of Art and Design in Tokyo.
