Russ Vitale (born September 26, 1992), known by his stage name and mononym Russ, is an American hip hop recording artist, singer-songwriter and record producer.[1][2] He is known for his singles "What They Want" and "Losin Control", which peaked respectively at number 83 and 63 on the US Billboard Hot 100.[3] He is part of the Diemon Crew, a rap group.[4][5][6]

Early life

Russ was born September 26, 1992 in New Jersey. He is of Sicilian ancestry. He has also lived in New York, North Carolina and Kentucky. He started writing raps in his notebook at seven years old and started making beats when he was 14.[7] He recorded his first song at 18 years old.[8][9]

Russ has two different eye colors, which is known as the condition heterochromia.

Career

In 2016, Russ signed to Columbia Records.[10] He later released the single "What They Want", which peaked at number 83 on the US Billboard Hot 100.[11] [12] He then released another single "Losin Control", which peaked at number 63 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and is currently his highest charting single.[3]

Musical style

His early inspirations were G-Unit, 50 Cent and Eminem.[8]

Plagiarism

In August 2016 Russ was mentioned in the Polish media. His clip 'Losin Control' (from February 2016) was accused of being a plagiarism of the clip 'The Fib' (released in September 2015) created for the song of Polish electronic music group Rysy.[13][14][15][16] The alleged similarities relate to the script, characters, film techniques, shots and scenes. The creators of the original version of the clip announced a lawsuit.[17][18]
