Scheduled in February, 2004. Parsons School of Design in New York carried out and exhibition with the name “Creating their Own Image”. They offered an examination of the plight of black women in the world, covered by many african women artista, such as Elizabeth Cattlet, Emma Amos, Chakai Booker, Pamela Jennings and Carrie Mae Weems. People could enjoy about 50 paintings, sculpture, photography and mixed media work (proquest II).

Wendy Mayurama is a japanese artist and educator whose work is to design furniture pieces with references to her japanese folklore(SFMCD).

This museum is located on Sutter Street, San Francisco Union Square District, USA and its purpose is to expose modern and contemporary craft and design . It openeded its doors on October 23, 2004(SFMCD).

The museum

Founded in 2004, The Museum of Craft and Design (MCD) allows artists, designers and makers to show their work and their art through series of craft exhibitions and public programs. In the fall of 2010 the museum showed its firts pop-up museums, galleries, exhibitions, educational programs. In 2012 the museum moved to the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Fracisco. (galegrup) (nhostels).

The museums is constantly collaborating with artists, designers, other museums and universities, all of this to have an impact in the people who visit the place. The inaugural exhibition of the Museum showed an collection of art and design from the studio furniture Garry Knox Bennett and his wife, Sylvia. This exhibition was wearing the name “Dovelaiting Art and Life: The Bennett Collection” (proquest). The museum offers monthly programs where anyone can experience hands-on projects, 3D designs and printing. The offering is for both kids and adults. The programs leaded to kids offers them the opportunity to learn different techniques. This has the purpose of motivate and increase kids creativity and let them have a good time in a healthy supervised environment.

The museum offers to adults the opportunity of participate in workshops, interacting with artists and other people, working with leading artists and thinkers related to the contemporary craft and design. Mixed Messages Its an exhibition leaded by Chris Eckert and John Green, it will be opened in Fall of this year, 2017. It consist on an installation of 24 telegraph machines fabricated in the artists studio. The machines has a Morse Code for some specific news organization; The Associated Press, Fox News, BBC. The museum offers everyone to be a volunteer of the community, given you the opportunity to develop your creativity. Once you enter, you will participate in many of the activities for kids and adults that the museum leads, assist speaker series programs and special events.

Job requirements

In the physical requirements, you need to be able to stand and walk for longer periods of time and skilled with hand-work and the strange to carry objects up to 25 lbs. The employee must be skilled costumer service, relations with other people, experience with the POS System(SFMCD). Corporate Support The corporate gifts support many initiatives such as especial exhibition sponsorships , educational programs for children and adults and the develop of new technologies. In the return of the gifts, the corporations receive opportunities for employees, clients and community partners (ssolutions).

Museum Store

The store features many objects that reflect the focus on art and design, wood, fiber, glass, clay or metal. You can also purchase personal accessories such as handmade as well as special material from the local and international artista that came to the museum. All the earnings support the development of the exhibitions. The schedules are from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 to 5 pm, Thursday from 10 to 7 pm and Sunday from 12 to 5 pm(usquare). The museum can be rented to hold small parties or meetings. This support the museum main objective of making more exhibitions and public programs. The MakeArt Laboratory rental fees are $250 per hour with two hour mínimum. The entire museum is in $3500 for five hours. The capacity is for 225 people(SFMCD).
