Let's do some fairly simple calculations. The volume of the ocean is on the order of a billion cubic kilometers, or <math>10^{21}</math> cubic meters. [http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0012821X96000362 This paper] estimates perhaps <math>10^{12}</math> kilograms per year entering the ocean, and you have to subtract 4 orders of magnitude from that to convert to a volume figure (using a rough density estimate of <math>10^4 \text{kg/m}^3</math> or <math>10 \text{g/cm}^3</math>), or <math>10^8</math> cubic meters a year. The difference is <math>10^{14}</math> or a hundred trillion. For comparison, an inch of sea level rise is on the order of one part in <math>10^5</math> or a hundred thousand; in other words, even an inch of sea level rise is on the order of a ''billion'' times more volume increase than the sediment entering the ocean each year.
