The reconstructed thermal bath

Guðrúnarlaug is a thermal bath in Iceland near Sælingsdalur in the municipality of Dalabyggð[1]. The name stems from Guðrún Ósvífrsdóttir who was a main character in the Laxdæla saga[2][3]. The thermal bath exists at the place described in the saga.

Reference in Sagas

Guðrúnarlaug (literally "Guðrún's pool" in Icelandic) was referenced in the Laxdæla saga as "the Baths of Saelingsdale", a placed visited by Guðrún Ósvífrsdóttir. The text reads:

Now Guest rideth eastward all day from Saurby and cometh to the Baths of Saelingsdale, and abides there awhile. Gudrun came to the Baths and greeteth well Guest her kinsman. Guest took her greeting well, and they fall to speech together, for both of them were wise and many-spoken.[3]: chapter 33
