Random questions...

  • Are any of Jimbo's talks besides Wikimania openly available?
  • I assume content from other Wikimedia projects may be included too, even if "Wikipedia" is in the name? Wikinews comes to mind, although there are so many MSM daily and hourly news podcasts available that it's probably not worth doing that unless a Wikipedia version could have a very heavy encyclopedic bent.
  • Would AAC be at all acceptable as an optional format? Yes, ogg is often the only possibility, but if there ever was more than one full-length spoken article included in one episode, the enhanced AAC chapter breaks would be very useful.

I was thinking mp3, aac, oog for ease of distro (and compatibility w/ players). We could call it "WikiMedia Weekly" but I think the Wikipedia name is slightly more known around the nets. Hopefully we can get Jimbo on on occasion - same w/ Tim and Brion :) -- Tawker 05:56, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are some advantages to doing "true podcasts" in .mp4 file format. Wikinews and Wikiversity have podcasts that can be found at the iTunes store by searching the podcasts for "wiki". --JWSchmidt 02:50, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas

Well, I might as well start a discussion on how to improve this thing, seeing as I haven't seen any yet. The Episodes are quite long and might not be good for people with slow connections and such, so maybe splitting the netcast into segments maybe.. say, 10-15 mins long. Smaller file sizes, and people can download the segments they want to hear. Your thoughts? - Zero1328 Talk? 09:44, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, yeah, I think we could do something like that. I was thinking a lower bitrate mp3 (that can be streamed w/ the player on the site) would be a good way to start things off. Breaking it into 4 seperate audio files might make a little fun on the editing -- Tawker 16:17, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My comment moved to the mainpage, under "General Feedback". Daveydweeb (chat/patch) 08:24, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Timezones

Due to the everlasting problem of timezones I propose that the Participants for this would leave the times they're available, right here. This way it would be easier to discuss when the next recording session will be. I'll start:

  • - Zero1328 Talk? - 06:00 to 12:00 (UTC) on Weekdays. 0:00 to 12:00 (UTC) on Weekends.
  • - Daveydweeb (chat/patch) - 08:00 to 14:00 (UTC) Weekdays, any time on weekends.
