I have just corrected the content of this page. Mecaplast company doesn't exist anymore. Novares is the new name of the merger between mecaplast and key plastic. So, the mecaplast wikipedia page no longer needs to be. You can modify this page but don't rename it Mecaplast, it doesn't make sense.

History

Mecaplast

Mecaplast company was created by Charles Manni with five people in an apartment in Monaco in 1955. The first plastic part produced was a Chemical Condenser Cap. In 1964, the company entered the automobile industry by producing a plastic fan used in the 204 Peugeot[1] engine.

2002 and 2003 was a turning point for the group when they slowly acquired the Group Neyr[2] (which included locations in France, England, Spain, Mexico, Czech Republic) and the main assets of Group ARIES[3] (which included locations in France, Italy) These acquisitions tripled the staff of the company.

Since 2007, the crisis which affected the whole automobile sector did not spare Mecaplast. They subsequently sold several production sites in France (Le Mans, Saint-Lupicin, Reims, Crépy-en-Valois), in Moncalieri, Italy and Manouba, Tunisia to trim down the work force[4].

In August 2009, Mecaplast was considered a strategic equipment manufacturer by PSA Peugeot Citroën (PSA) and Renault, and the group benefits from the financial support of the FMEA (Fonds de Modernisation des Equipementiers Automobiles) and subsequently the family business enters the next level of capital of 55 M€ turnover, +33%[5].

In 2010, Mecaplast Group employed 5,800 collaborators on the world announcing a turnover of 623 million euros[6]. The factory in Chennai, India was then inaugurated on June 3rd, 2010[7].

On January 1st, 2011, the company’s French establishment in Valréas[8], the first location of the group outside Monaco, purchased in 1985, was sold to the group Silvatrim, another Monaco automotive equipment specializing in plastics processing. Still in 2011, Mecaplast then closed their Spanish factory in Sant Boi, the Technical Center in Ruelle-sur-Touvre, France then sells their specialized sites in the textile industry. The La Rochefoucauld location was sold to an entrepreneur, Charentais, Mornac, and Pardubice locations were sold to Faurecia[9].

In 2011, pursuing its international expansion plans, the group opened a 3rd production site in China in Yantai and another one in Zrenjanin, Serbia[10]. Since then, the group continues its expansion and in 2014 opened a 4th factory in China in Shenyang. Two new sites in Silao, Mexico and Zavar, Slovakia are inaugurated in 2016. In 2016, Bpi France buys shares of the company. The same year, Equistone Partners becomes majority a shareholder of the group investing to 72%[11].
