The Roman Republic declared war on the Seleucid king Antiochus III in response to his aggressive expansion into Thrace, a territory once ruled by the Seleucid dynast Seleucus. Rome overwhelmingly defeated the Seleucids and pushed their empire back out of Anatolia.

While the conflicts between Rome and Antiochus are often referred to as the Syrian Wars by Roman historians, they are not to be confused with the Syrian Wars between the Seleucid Empire and Ptolemaic Egypt.
