Family Common Name: Suckermouth Armoured Catfishes

Features: Rows of armour plating covering body, underslung suckermouth.

Distribution: South America

Genus: Otocinclus (Oto = ear; cinclus = a latticework; an allusion to the holes in the head in the region of the ear)

Pronunciation: auto SINK luss

Common Name: Dwarf Sucker, Oto

The genus includes over a dozen species including: O. affinis (Golden), bororo, caxarari, cocama (Zebra), flexilis (Peppered), gibbosus, hasemani, hoppei, huaorani, macrospilus, mariae, mura, tapirape, vestitus, vittatus and xakriaba.
