Frikjent, international also known as Acquitted is a 2015 Norwegian TV series.[1] In the UK, the series is shown on Walter Presents.[2]

Content

In season one, Aksel Borgen, before his name change Aksel Nilsen (Nicolai Cleve Broch), was tried 20 years ago for the murder of 18-year-old Karine Haansteen. However, this went out with the significant acquittal. Branded, he disappears from his hometown Lifjord in Norway and makes his career in Asia. He lives with his wife Angeline and his son as a successful businessman in Kuala Lumpur. One day he is confronted by his work with his past: William Haansteen asks him for an investment in the financially troubled solar company in Lifjord. Aksel flies to Norway, where old feuds re-emerge and Eva Haansteen, the mother of the killed Karine, fights him fiercely.

In season two, after an outrageous confession, William Hansteen is brought to trial. Aksel hopes that the truth will come to light and that he will finally be washed clean of the old suspicion. He receives support from prosecutor Amina Sahir, who pursues every track that relieves Aksel. Eva Haansteen is every means to protect her husband William from imprisonment. She begins an affair with the policeman Finn Kristoffersen, who is to make incriminating evidence disappear. When another girl dies, the investigation again focuses on the Nilsen family: Aksel's brother Erik is arrested. Alone on his own, Aksel tries desperately to free himself and his brother from suspicion.
