Ronald J. Shurer is a former US Army special forces Staff Sergeant and medic who will be awarded the Medal of Honor on 1 Oct 2018 for actions in April 2008, in Afghanistan's Skok Valley when as a senior medical sergeant, he and his team of were attacked by an enemy force of more than 200 fighters. He fought for more than an hour to reach part of his unit, killing several insurgents along the way[1] He had previously been awarded the Silver Star for this action.
