Vergeletto is a municipality in the district of Locarno, in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland.

History

In the middel age Vergeletto belonged to the Onsernone vicinanza and to the squadra of Russo. Since 1803 the municipality of Vergeletto also comprised the current municipality of Gresso, both municipalities were separated in 1882. Vergeletto first depended from the church of Russo since 1757 it is an autonomus parish.

Patrimony

Chiesa parrochiale Annunciazione di Maria Vergine: founded in 1610 by Pietro Terribilini it contains a wooden statue repsententing the Virgin Mary and Gabriel Archangel.

Casa Garbani: elegant XVIII century estate built by the Garbani familly, located in the upper part of the village.

Il mulino: an XVIII century mill located in the center of the village.

Tourism

One comes to Vergeletto by the road which forks at [Cavigliano]]. The road curves throughout very impressive gorges far away one can distinghish farm houses laying like swallows or eagle nest.

According to the writter H.R. Haller one could think being "somewhere in Nepal or in the Himalaya".

Worth to mention:

Il nucleo: located at the entrance of the valley bearing the same name. It is the starting point of magnificant trips to Alpin refuge such as Salei, Arena and Ribia.
