Sheetala Asthami is a hindu festival, which is celebrated on eighth day after the festival of colors, Holi[1]. As per the Indian Calender, it is celebrated on Asthami (8th day) of Krishna Paksh[2]. It symbolizes the change of season from winter to summer. It is believed that on this day, people don't cook fresh food, and prefer to eat food made one or two days before the day. On this day, Sheetala Goddess is worshipped.
Different names
Sheetala Asthami is celebrated in different states of India, and called by different names. In Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, etc it is known by the name Sheetala Asthami, whereas in other states it is known by different names like Basora, Basodha, Sheetalasthami, etc.
