Français du Monde–ADFE

ADFE Francais du Monde is a French Non-Profit organisation present in many countries around the world.

Some of its priorities are :

Promote culture and information

• promote French culture , Francophonia and intercultural exchanges between France and the United States; • work to increase RFI broadcasts and TV5 everywhere in the US. • Continue to publish on the Web and by mailings a newsletter on precise subjects of interest to you: nationality, education, taxes, retirement, green card lottery, and national service.

Increase social aid

• defend a budgetary increase for social aid • help you to file for retirement • counsel women in precarious situations • obtain better training for consular personnel involved in social work • demand the appointment of a consular agent responsible for senior citizens

Facilitate admission to French schools and scholarships

• increase the admissions to French schools so that all French families and dual national families can enroll their children in these schools • be attentive to the financial contribution of the French government to these schools and be attentive to the presence of certified French teachers in these schools •limit increases in tuition • improve the system for the distribution of financial aid for low and middle class families

The ADFE delegates proposed and obtained in February 2003 a more flexible system for granting French government financial aid, a system which takes into account to a greater extent the cost of living for lower and middle class French families in the United States.

• encourage the creation of the pedagogical programs, "French as a mother tongue", FLAM, in places where there are no French schools

Helping French nationals in times of crisis

• request the creation of security plans in coordination with French associations in order to increase the intervention capability of the French consulates • propose the establishment of lists of volunteers ready to help with housing, translating, medical assistance, and psychological support

Making taxes clearer and fairer, inform you of your rights and responsibilities as a result of the Tax agreement between France and the United States • Keep the pressure on the fiscal services of the French embassy to get the agreements concerning TAMRA and civil service retirements signed

Defend public service

• demand an increase in consular staff in order to improve service and information • work to make registration at the consulates easier for dual nationals and French residents in precarious situations • obtain better job conditions for locally hired staff at the consulates • insist on the creation of employment and training commissions in every consulate

Make the return to France easier

• obtain an improvement in the social structures upon returning to France: quick access to medical coverage for everyone and unemployment compensation • facilitate the granting of visas for France for spouses and partners of French citizens within the context of the French PACS legislation • help you to prepare for your retirement in France and answer your questions (retirement payments, medical coverage, double pensions, taxes, nationality)
