The First, also called The First TV is a conservative opinion and commentary network in the U.S. started in October 2019.[1][2] It currently has five hosts, including prominent news personality Bill O'Reilly.[3] It currently offers about 45 hours worth of original programming a week.[4] The network's name is a nod to the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

History

The First was launched in October 2019 on Pluto TV, the free streaming platform owned by CBS-Viacom.[5] It started as a "soft launch" but has since grown considerably and is now featured on DistroTV, Stirr, Glued, Vizio, and the channel's own IOS, Android, Amazon Fire, and Roku apps. At the time of launch it was rumored that National Amusements, which controls Viacom and CBS, was looking to create a conservative alternative to Fox News. But National Amusements head Share Redstone denied that despite The First launching on Pluto TV, which is owned by CBS-Viacom.[6] It was started in partnership with Red Seat Ventures.[7]

Hosts

The First launched with two hosts in October 2019, former combat veteran Jesse Kelly and former CIA analyst Buck Sexton. In January 2020, the network added California-based talk radio host Mike Slater and conservative female talk radio host Dana Loesch.[8]

On June 1, 2020, the network announced that Bill O'Reilly was joining the network. His previously online-only show, "No Spin News," is now available on The First at 8p ET with a replay at 11p ET.[4]

“The success of BillOReilly.com with millions of users will now accelerate with our partnership,” O’Reilly said of joining The First. “The First will create and distribute honest, corporate-free news and commentary which is desperately needed in America.”[9]

O'Reilly's time slot on The First is the same one he occupied on Fox News, and puts him up against Tucker Carlson.[10]

Contributors

In addition to the five network hosts, the network is home to a slew of contributors.[11] The list includes:

  • Nick Adams (presidential appointee)[12]
  • Madison Gesiotto (former Trump campaign surrogate)[13]
  • Rob Smith (author and Army veteran)[14]
  • Billy Hallowell (author)
  • Sydney Watson (YouTube star)
  • Tiana Lowe (Washington Examiner columnist)[15]
  • Isabel Brown (YouTube star)
