Trace Memory (アナザーコード), also known as Another Code: Two Memories in Europe, is an adventure video game published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS portable gaming system.
Trace Memory stars Ashley Robins, a 14-year-old girl investigating the mystery of her father's disappearance. She finds a letter from him on the eve of her 14th birthday, which takes her to Blood-Edward Island, upon which the majority of the game takes place. She receives a DAS, a PDA-like system similar to the Nintendo DS which can be used to take and store photos, investigate objects and view your inventory. Ashley also befriends the ghost of a young boy named D, which only she can see.
Players navigate in the game by using the bottom screen to move around while the top screen shows very artistic pre-rendered images of each area, similar to those seen in Myst. Players use the touch screen and the microphone to solve a variety of puzzles.
Story
Ashley Mizuki Robins is almost a 14-year-old girl, who had grown up with her Aunt Jessica since she was 3. She had thought her parents were dead, but on the eve of her 14th birthday she received a letter from her father, asking her to go to Blood Edward Island, where he'd be waiting for her on the dock. The next day on her birthday, Jessica and Ashley ride over to Blood Edward Island on a boat, but do not find Ashley's father at the dock. Jessica goes to look for him, but doesn't return and adventure ensues.
DAS
The DAS is a mysterious handheld device that Ashley's father sent to her in the letter that told her that he was alive. It has various functions, which include:
- Take, store and manipulate photos to solve clues.
- Read and presumedly write DAS cards, which are small cards that store information.
- Activate Another I and Another II
It also has biometric data stored on it, so that only Ashley Mizuki Robins (i.e. you) can access it. (In the real world, it also gives you item information and allows you to Save/Load Data.)
