$ This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that they have been paid by Polaris Project for their contributions to Wikipedia. Hello to anyone who is bothering to read this. First and foremost: I work for Polaris. I understand your policy on conflict of interest but I have been watching for three years to see if anyone goes back to this, recognizes the changes to the organization, and does anything. No one has, so I am stepping in. The article in question centers on debates and discussions from a decade ago. The organizations work, leadership, positions on issues etc. have changed dramatically in that time. We are more than happy to submit a new version to anyone who either contributed to the original or for that matter would like to contribute to the new version, but if Wikipedia is to retain its currency as an accurate source of information, waiting around for someone else to make these changes is counterproductive.

Additionally, it seems more honest to me to admit that we wrote this and open it up to anyone else who wants to edit, than to do what nonprofits generally do - hire someone to front for them so they can change their wikipedia page.

I appreciate your work, and I appreciate the criticisms in the existing piece. But the idea that this outdated, one-sided article describing an organization has been allowed to stand as truth for 10 years is to no one's benefit and downgrades the value of Wikipedia. I would be happy to discuss further with a real live person if anyone wants to. Beyond that, I am editing this piece dramatically to accurately reflect an organization that is working on an important issue and has changed dramatically since this piece was posted.

Yours, Caren Benjamin cbenjamin@polarisproject.org
