Adam Gnade is a San Diego-born American musician who now resides in Portland, Oregon. Often lumped into the New Weird America folk music scene, he defines his music as "talking-songs" which he describes as mixing the spoken vocals of talking blues songs with modern psychedelic rock and avant-garde noise or experimental drone influences. In 2005 Gnade signed to the California-based Loud + Clear Records, toured the US, and issued Run Hide Retreat Surrender, his first official release after a series of self-released experimental albums (Goodbye Drunken Ghost 2000, Shiv Shiv Shake 2002).

In 2006, he issued a set of limited run experimental albums (We Are Bones and Ghosts Down Stone Walled Wells and 2) expanding on his "talking songs" idea before signing a UK label deal with Drowned in Sound (home to Metric, Martha Wainwright, Kaiser Chiefs). Drowned in Sound released Gnade's EP, Shout the Rafters Down!, (which features members of Sufjan Stevens'Asthmatic Kitty Records artists the Castanets) in Nov of 2006, after which he will be touring Europe in support of the record. DutchMoney Books will also release a book version of stories surrounding album's characters. Released in winter 2007, it will be called Hymn California.

Gnade also recorded a track with Faux-Hoax in mid-2006, a band featuring Dave Allen from 1970s UK punk act Gang of Four, John Askew from Tracker, and Danny Seim from Menomena. His current band is called Adam Gnade and the Confederate Yankees and includes Thaddeus Christian, Shiloh Halsey, Brian T. Smith, and Johnny Askew. Recent US and UK radio singles include "Hymn California" and "We Live Nowhere and Know No One." Gnade also recently appeared as "the Silent Kid" in the indie film Loren Cass. Adam Gnade is represented in the US by the publicity company Four Paws Media (Deer Hoof, Xiu Xiu) and in the UK by Dog Day Press (home to Iron and Wine, Antony and the Johnsons, Broken Social Scene, Joanna Newsom)
