Anthony "Tony" Green

Born Glasgow 30th October 1946

Tony was a Newcastle United footballer from 1971 to 1973.

He was signed from Blackpool for £150000. Tony saved Newcastle from relegation in 1972, easily their best player. He could dribble and beat players with a jink and burst of speed.

Tragically his career was over at the age of 26, he had a cartilage injury and was never to play professionally again.

With only 35 games and with 3 goals to his Newcastle career, the Geordie supporters were left wondering what he could have achieved.

After his career was over he became a PE teacher.

He made 6 appearances for Scotland between 1971 and 1972.
