Rita Edochie
Rita Edochie is Nigerian veteran actress[1][2] who commenced her acting career long before the establishment of the now structured Nollywood. In 2016, she was decorated with the Ambassador For Peace Award by the Universal Peace Federation.[3]
Biography
Edochie was born in Anambra state, which is the south eastern part of Nigeria predominantly occupied by the Igbo people of Nigeria. Edochie has four children and is a grand-mother. She is the sister-in-law of Pete Edochie[2] and aunt of both Yul Edochie and Muna Obiekwe
Personal life
Edochie is married to Tony Edochie who is the younger brother of Pete Edochie. She is a mother of four and also a grandmother.
Edochie was sexually assaulted at a young age which resulted to an early pregnancy.[4][5]
Trump Advocacy
Edochie was the most prominent and prolific Nigerian celebrity who supported Donald Trump during the 2020 U.S presidential elections.[6] Her support for Trump caused her to be unpopular amongst Nigerians who once revered and respected her.[7][8]
Controversy
In 2020, Edochie was allegedly running a scam alongside a Nigerian pastor by the name of Odumeje, in which Edochie coerced or paid individuals to feign ailments and have the pastor pray for them and they got healed whilst in actuality they were never ill.[9][10]
