User renaming

Hi Essjay. I came to inquire about your renaming of User:Hashikure to User:端くれの錬金術師. Was there a specific reason for this, because it is generally against community consensus to have non-Latin characters in a username. —Mets501 (talk) 03:31, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The subject has been under quite a bit of debate recently. I checked the rename log and found that Redux, who was recently involved in the discussion on the Bureaucrat's Noticeboard, had recently consented to such a request; looking further into it, I found that the username policy no longer prohibits non-latin characters. I declined to perform any such name changes while the matter was under discussion, but it appears to me to have been resolved; my understanding was that Redux was of the same opinion, and I take his recent action as a confirmation that he too feels the matter has been resolved. So, in short, it used to be against policy, it no longer is, which is most likely a good thing, since single login is going to bring tens of thousands of them that will be unaffected by local policy anyway. AWB RfApr

Good morning (GMT time); I was wondering how it is possible to get the source code for all of these bots around the encyclopedia - such as User:Sandbot (and thus User:Essjaybot) - in order to build a bot to automatically archive the recently approved users for AWB.

Post script: I've replied at the Essays talk page in my userspace, regarding the unacceptable copying of content. Although you will see the full forgiveness-begging thing there, please accept my apologies in advance. :)

I didn't write the code, so it isn't mine to give out. The sandbot portion of the EssjayBot code was written by a contributor who is no longer with the project. The archiving code for the other EssjayBots was written by Misza13, so it is his, not mine, to give out. Essjay (Talk) 05:00, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain this

Please explain the tremendous disparity between the personal information you have volunteered on your user page on Wikipedia since you started in February 2005, and the new information you provide at wikia.com. I see that wikia.com's server is down at the moment. If it isn't up yet, you can find a screen shot at wikipedia-watch.org/gifs/wmessjay.png Do you really exist? Are you one person or several? Why should we believe anything you say? -- Daniel Brandt 216.60.71.100 05:43, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
