331dot just following up from User talk:2600:387:3:803:0:0:0:5A. Sorry, Mobile IPs change unpredictably. Look I've never claimed to be new. I had one account around 2005, then another from 2007 to 2009. That was actually before notifications through username links were a thing, which I've done or at least tried to do like 3 times total. Anyway it was my understanding that so long as you were neither evading a block, nor a sock of something there was no issue with moving between accounts/IPs when you forgot a password. Maybe that's changed, but if so I don't think I can be faulted for not reading the policies religiously. If you wish to start a request for checkuser I certainly have no objections, but I have no idea what the process is for that either.

On your main point, I won't argue against range-blocks, sometimes they're the least bad option, who wants to spend their whole day cleaning up after grawp? But the haphazard application to arbitrary mobile subranges is quite difficult to understand, basically if you try to fix a typo or update something small your ability to do so is more or less random, and the block notification has to be confusing as hell for most new and casual editors. Anyway altering these blocks to articlespace only is not really for me, I doubt I've averaged even one edit a month over the last decade, although it is shocking how long some obscure articles go without updates. Rather I'm quite confident that a whole lot of people hit the edit button to try and help out, are confused to be locked out for no reason and never try again. If instead they got a message that said unfortunately you can't make the change directly, but you can suggest it here, then while we would still lose most edits, some would continue on, and all would be more likely to try again later. The whole reason wikis work is the low barrier to entry, and instant satisfaction. Anyway, I thought it might be worth a try, and that's why I asked, but I'm sure you have better things to do with your time than argue with someone who hasn't contributed anything worth bragging about since the last time a president's surname started with a B.

Final point, I think your reply would have been much clearer had you just said: "Unfortunately policy does not allow the placement of namespace blocks on IPs". Won't stop me from thinking that's a stupid policy. But at least in that case it's clear the unblock request has in fact been read, just a thought anyway. 2600:387:3:805:0:0:0:B2 (talk) 16:00, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
