Eric P. Wendt is a retired United States Army Green Beret lieutenant general who during his career served 55 months deployed to multiple combat zones around the world, and who last served as the commander of the NATO Special Operations Headquarters. He previously had terms as a General Officer serving as the United States Security Coordinator for Israel-Palestinian Authority, commanding general of the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School and commander of Special Operations Command Korea.[2] He also served as a General Officer as chief of staff of the United States Pacific Command from 2015 to 2016 and as the Deputy Commander of Regional Command-North in Afghanistan from 2011-2012.[3]
Wendt was commissioned in the Army as a second lieutenant via the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps in 1986 and retired effective March 1, 2021 after serving 34 years and 6 months of active duty, including 4 years and 6 months in the Infantry, and 30 years as a Green Beret. [4] President Donald Trump nominated him to be United States ambassador to Qatar, but his nomination was returned by the Senate on January 3, 2021, without action.[5] He speaks Arabic and Korean.[2]
