Mister Sister is a 2021 Canadian-American dramedy film by the filmmaker Mars Roberge[1]. It stars Jack James Busa, Her Royal Highness Princess Diandra and Debra Haden, along with the debut acting performance by Jim Sclavunos of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.[2]

Plot

A suicidal man from Milwaukee is given a second chance at life in NYC, working as a drag MC while learning the courage from the caring LGBTQ+ community to pursue his dreams, including a relationship with a tap dancing single mom.[3]

Release

Mister Sister had its world premiere as the official closing night film for the 24th Dances With Films on 12 September 2021, held at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood.[5] It then had a sold-out east coast premiere in NYC as the official closing night film for the 10th Winter Film Awards International Film Festival held at Cinema Village on 30 September 2021.[6] The final public screening to date was the Canadian premiere held in Toronto at Revue Cinema on 9 October 2021. Roberge along with several cast and crew members were present for all the public screenings, engaging with the audience after the film.

Shortly following the successful screenings, Arsenal Pictures acquired the world rights for Mister Sister and plans to release the film towards the end of 2021. [7]

Reception

Mister Sister has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Unseen Films calls it "a one of a kind film in the best sort of way."[8] Original Rock out writes: "Mister Sister will relentlessly tickle your senses with laughter, tears and a whole load of street rocking drag queen chit chat. Borrow, buy or steal it, but just f*cking see it."[9] FilmFestivals.com writes: "He [Jack James Busa] is an awesome talent and so charismatic you can't keep your eyes off him This film MUST make him a star."[10] My Indie Productions writes: "Mister Sister is simply a joy, a fun journey covering some serious issues, as well as introducing some of its audience to a world they may not otherwise be exposed to, which in my opinion is commendable."[11] As of October 24th, 2021, IMDb subscribers have rated Mister Sister a 9.3 out of 10.[12]

Accolades

In 2021, Mister Sister won Best NYC Film at Winter Film Awards International Film Festival and Jack James Busa was nominated for Best Actor.[13]
