Kosmos 1408 was a Soviet ELINT satellite in low earth orbit. It broke up in November 2021, with the debris threatening the ISS.

Launch and use

The satellite was launched in 1982 as part of the Tselina system.[1]

November 2021 breakup

On 14 November 2021 it was reported that the satellite had broken up, generating a debris stream that threatened the International Space Station. The breakup created at least 14 parts of debris.[1]
