If you have followed a link to a section on a discussion page which has since been archived (and thus the link did not work), this script displays a link at the top of the page taking you straight to the archived discussion. Great Scott!

The script performs a search into the talk page's archives and finds the archived discussion. False positives can occur if there are multiple discussions with exactly the same section title (this should be quite rare). In such cases, you can go back, and click on the search link instead and find the correct archived section by yourself.

Test cases that demonstrate the script's functionality are at /testcases.

Installation: Go to your gadget preferences and enable find-archived-section in the Browsing section.

As of August 2021, functionality of this gadget has been merged into Convenient Discussions. If you use that, you don't need this one.

The discussion link is generated when the section name in the URL is not found on the page, but a section with the same name exists in the page's archives.
