Dohna Dohna (Japanese: ドーナドーナ いっしょにわるいことをしよう, Hepburn: Dōnadōna: Issho ni Warui Koto o Shiyō) is an adult role-playing video game developed by Alicesoft and released on November 27, 2020.[1][2] It also collaborated with "Muse Dash", a rhythm run action game.[3] An English translated version by Shiravune was released on Johren Games on October 29, 2021.[4]

The game features heavy topics such as abuse and prostitution,[5][6] and been praised for its visual effects and graphics.[7][6]

Story

The game takes place in Asougi City, a town facing the Seto Inland Sea that has been completely taken over by a corporation.[8]

However, the nature of the regime has given rise to some level of bubbling unrest. This unrest manifests itself in the form of the "anti-Aso" clans.[5][9]

It's as the Founder's Birthday Ceremony approaches that things approach a breaking point, as Asougi's oppression worsens, the anti-Aso agitate,[10] and the general public turns its eye to goings-on in the city.[4]

Players take control of the Nayuta clan, one of the anti-Aso forces, and through the game's mechanics control both their business and their battle operations as they strive to outcompete the other clans on the ground,[11] and ultimately topple Asougi itself.

Development and release

Dohna Dohna was developed by AliceSoft. The scenario of the game was written by Dice Korogashi, with art designs by Gyokai and Kanikama.[12][13] The opening of the game, Song of Dohna Dohna (ドーナドーナのうた, Dōnadōna no uta), was sung by Tsukino.[11]

AliceSoft first released a free trial of the game for download on the Fanza Games on November 5, 2020.[14] The package edition, download edition and deluxe edition of Dohna Dohna were released by AliceSoft for Windows PCs on November 27, 2020, compatible up to Windows 8/10.[15] Deluxe edition of the game was bundled with a dakimakura cover.[13][16] Merchandise such as telephone cards and badge have also been included as a bonus when customer bought the game.[17] An English translated version by Shiravune was released on Johren Games on October 29, 2021.[4]

Reception

On Getchu.com, a major redistributor of visual novel and domestic anime products, Dohna Dohna ranked as the second best selling bishōjo game for the month of its release.[18] Deluxe edition of the game also ranked as the eighth best selling bishōjo game at the same period.[18] According to the BugBug, a Japanese magazine that focus on bishōjo games, it was the best selling bishōjo game from November 16, 2020 to December 15, 2020.[15]

In Getchu.com's voting results for November 2020, Dohna Dohna was voted to be the best bishōjo game of the month.[19] Getchu.com also hosts a yearly voting poll called the "Getchu.com Bishōjo Game Award" where game users vote online for the best games of the previous year in several different categories. For the 2020 ranking, the categories were: overall, scenario, gameplay system, graphics, music, movie, character, erotic content. Dohna Dohna ranked second overall,[20] first in gameplay system,[21] second in graphics,[22] sixth in movie.[23] Dohna Dohna won a semi-grand prize from Moe Game Award 2020. Tadamoto Ōsawa, the editor-in-chief of the BugBug, praised Dohna Dohna for its visual effects, user interface and illustration.[7]

Ryo from Media Clip, a hentai review site, praised the background music and pop graphics, wrote that all of them eventually "make the game fun and cheerful."[6]
