Translated version

Yan Jianyuan (顏見遠), was a native of Linyi, Langya Commandery. He was the seventh generation descendant of Yan Han and 33th generation descendant of Yan Hui. He was the Imperial Examiner of Southern Qi.

When Xiao Baorong was guarding Jingzhou, Yan Jianyuan was recorded as joining the military.

In 501, Xiao Baorong was located in Jiangling and Yan Jianyuan was manager of documents later promoted to Imperial Examiner.

When Emperor Wu, came to power, Yan Jianyuan resigned due to illness. Xiao Baorong fell victim to Emperor Wu who established Liang Dynasty.[1] Yan Jianyuan cried and later died due to hunger strike. Emperor Wu hated it, told his courtiers, "I should obey Heaven and listen to the people, I don't care about scholars and officials, but Yan Jianyuan was here". The courtiers were loyal and they all praised him.[2]
