The Wistar/Wisters are among the Old Philadelphian families. The family in America derives from Caspar Wistar (1696 –1752), a glassmaker of German origin who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1717, and his brother John Wister, who arrived a decade later and anglicized his name with an "e" instead of an "a"[1]
