Kim Victoria Abeles

Kim Abeles is an artist living in Los Angeles. She was born in August 28,1952 in Richmond Heights, MO. Her artwork is know as political nature and is known for her feminist work. Kim was born in Pittsburgh where she describes the weather to be foggy, polluted ai and smog all around. Most of her work is from her childhood and recreates them as part of her past. Her most famous piece called “ smog collectors” shares the story of the populated air here in Los Angeles. It is an observation of pollution in the air that connects to our city but to her childhood. o Kim Abeles studied at the university of Irvine: she got accepted to the fine arts program. Her first art work was a 1 ½ ton piece that was made from cobblestones that were. recycled from clay. In 1987 she created her most famous piece called “smog collectors”. It portrays the current conditions of our city and many diverse topics the community. Creating sculptures of people about environmental work. She sculpted Rosa parks, calamity jane, and Joan of arc.
