Richard B. Dunn (* 14. December 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland; † 29. September 2005 in Las Cruces, New Mexico)

Leben

Dunn studied and earned his doctorate at Harvard University and worked at Sacramento Peak in Sunspot from 1953. He worked on solar physics and developed a unique solar telescope here. In January 1998, Dr. Richard Dunn was awarded the George Ellery Hale Prize of the American Astronomical Society for outstanding contributions to the field of solar astronomy over an extended period of time. In 1998, Richard Dunn was honoured by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for his lifetime achievements. The Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT) at Sacramento Peak in New Mexico was renamed the Richard B. Dunn Solar Telescope.
